Develop your creativity

Our arts campus at Brampton Road in Carlisle is the perfect setting to explore and develop your creative and conceptual abilities under the generous supervision of experienced tutors.  A friendly atmosphere amongst like-minded arts students aims to stimulate ideas and put you in touch with other creatives.

Our MA courses include Ceramics, Contemporary Fine Art, Directing, Fashion Textiles, Photography and Printmaking. Additionally, our MA in Creative Practice embraces a trans-media focus across six creative fields (Film and Television, Graphic Design and Illustration, Photography, Digital Art and Games Design, and Wildlife and Adventure Media). Career pathways are numerous due to the abundance of transferable skills acquired in the arts, and graduates can find work in a number of environments including galleries, museums, theatre, film as well as roles where they can use their visual and practical skills such as marketing, advertising, publishing, art therapy and teaching.  The world really is your oyster!


Explore leadership across borders

Our Business School offers a range of flexible and accredited courses, including the MBA International Business and MSc International Management.  Both of these courses will help you to develop a critical awareness of current issues, giving you a competitive advantage and preparing you for a career in the international marketplace. The Business School is a growing area at the University of Cumbria; committed to providing a flexible and friendly student experience. The School was recently awarded The Small Business Charter Bronze Award in recognition of its active participation in supporting start-ups and small businesses in Cumbria and North Lancashire.


Excellent research degrees

Our focus is on applied and practitioner research, much of it in collaboration with local, regional and international partners, producing high quality research. We offer PhD and MPhil research degrees - both are awarded on the basis of a thesis, and include an original contribution to knowledge within your field of study. 

The 2014 Research Excellence Framework recently published results show that the University of Cumbria has seen a considerable increase in its ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’ research. This is reflected by the factthat the university has risen 17 places on the Times Higher Education REF2014 results table.

As a research student you will be supported by supervisors, development sessions and a summer school as well as an annual Doctoral Colloquium and a number of conferences. Join us and you could be producing the next ground-breaking research that could be published internationally!
